Spring is officially here and I've packed away my sweaters making room for a couple new spring pieces.  I've preached before about the importance of building a functional wardrobe (little black dress, sensible trousers, awesome jeans, pencil skirt, pleated coats, etc) because shopping is easier/cheaper when you introduce just one or two items to spruce up your look, each new season.  You build your wardrobe like a hobbyist builds their collection.  In the end you have a well working closet.

What's on my radar this spring 2010?

Not much, which is a true sign of the economy.  I've tried to go into the mall and left emptied handed - this would've never happened just two years ago.  I actually told the Saks shoe associate that, "I just don't love them.  I don't really need them."  When trying on the most delicious BCBG ballet flats (found similar ones at DSW).  On my radar this spring are things that I really love and aren't worth a fortune.

OHmommy's Spring 2010

1.  Earrings. Specifically very long dangly ones that complement my new short hair cut.  I'm planning on wearing a lot more earrings and rings and wearing fewer necklaces and bracelets.  I found cute earrings at a craft fair for a whopping $5!  Woot.

2.  Aviator sunglasses. Gold ones because I am all done with anything silver.  And I am all over wearing sunglasses that scream GUCCI or  CHANEL or LOOKATME.

3.  Floral. Floral is everywhere but I can't imagine rocking a floral print dress so I am searching for a simple "floral" like top that will match well with my skirts/trousers.  H&M had decent floral tops.  As did my trusty Target.

4.  Flats. In fun colors!  To match my fun dangly earrings.

5.  Minnie pants. If there's one pant you buy this season consider the JCrew Minnie pant.  I read about them online, went to the store, saw them on the sales associate and walked out with two pairs.  They fit amazing and are as comfy as your most favorite yoga pants.  I promise.  If you are buying online, order a size down as they are very stretchy.  (Yes, I know they are $90 pants - but they feel like $90 pants and I wear them all.  the.  time.)

6.  Trench. I've owned mine for 4 years and still look forward each spring when I dust it off and throw it over a pencil skirt.

7.  Tote. I've been searching for a "Hermes" inspired tote for about two years now.  I think I found one and keep looking around the house to see what I could sell on ebay to afford it.

8.  Lip gloss. I go lighter in the spring.  And shinier too.

I am sashaying around Cleveland in my new pants, old trench, a pair of $10 aviator sunglasses scored at an outlet mall, huge earrings found at a craft fair, a new shade of pink gloss, new hair and crossing my fingers that spring is here to stay.  Just a pair of new shades and some sassy earrings are enough to make me feel like a million bucks this season.  I think I'm turning into a responsible adult.  Gasp.

I am totally buying some Minnie pants from J.Crew! And what I'd do for an Hermes!!
# Pauline 2010-03-24 21:39
I said "Hermes" inspired, lol!
# Crystal D 2010-03-24 21:39
Oh my gosh, I need a better picture of that cute haircut!! I love the gloss too. Good idea on the sunglasses. I was just thinking I needed new ones and wondered what the style for this summer was going to be. Thanks P.!!

I love it. I am debating cutting mine back up to my chin, but I am not sure I could pull off the bangs. Or I might just get highlights and have the back stacked up a little then let it grow out. It has been awhile since I have had long hair and it just now hitting my shoulders.
# Hailey 2010-03-24 21:46
What is the lip gloss? It is perfect. I love!
# Pauline 2010-03-25 07:46
NARS: foul play

I will check out the skinny pants at JCrew. I love trenches. I want a shorter one. Aviator sunglasses have always been cool. Retro now.
# Krystyn 2010-03-24 22:02
Dang the budget..those pants are hot!

Looking good, OHmommy.
# Megan 2010-03-24 22:04
Pauline - I want to be you when I grow up. Can I like be an intern or something right now... b/c you are all sorts of fabulous! XO
# kathyO 2010-03-24 22:04
Looking Good... I am so ready for a wardrobe makeover before kids it was mostly skirts or dresses now it is all jeans, comfy pants and shorts... Enough.. I am so ready to go back to my female self and start stacking up on some nice classy but sexy dresses. After all my kids are already 2. This also means time to get back in shape..uhhh
# Melissa 2010-03-24 22:18
Love your ideas. And your haircut.

The only thing on my radar right now is getting back into my OLD clothes... as I'm still about 10 lb away from fitting into them (stubborn post-November-baby weight). I look forward to thinking about a few new things in the fall though!
# Michelle 2010-03-24 22:33
I always look forward to these posts from you! :) You are an inspiration and I am definitely going to be checking out those pants at J. Crew.

In the sunglass dept., I could've sworn you were a fellow Tom Ford gal! I love love love my TF's for the same reason...not trendy, not blingy and very flattering.

On my radar too, speaking of J. Crew, is this lovely cardigan they have with floral accents sewn on the front. Hard to describe, but you can't miss it if you stop in!

Great post, P!!!! I want more!
# Pauline 2010-03-25 07:48
I am a Tom Ford gal. But my lenses keep popping out and Saks refuses to fix them. :( So I need something I can run around the park in, not worrying.
# Michelle 2010-03-25 10:01
That is a universal issue with those TF glasses! I had the same problem. Nordie's replaced mine twice, no questions asked and for some reason, this third pair is a charm. I can't believe Saks won't help you! :(
# elizabethsheryl 2010-03-24 23:37
Hmmm...the minnie pants looks suspiciously like they might be close cousins with SKINNY JEANS and so I'm scared of them. I'm a size 14 and hold my weight in my tummy, I like boot cut. So, are they figure friendly?
# Pauline 2010-03-25 07:51
They are very close to skinny jeans. Yes. I've said it before and I still believe it - if people just try them on with a "roomier" top they will see how flattering skinny pants are on all figures.

I see women of all shapes in slimming leggings - rocking them. These minnie pants are more stretchy fabric, that kind of pulls you in. Really amazing. But, you have to OWN them and feel good in them.
# sarah Petz 2010-03-25 00:18
Love whatever the lip-gloss is you are sporting! What is the color/brand?? Do tell!!
# Pauline 2010-03-25 07:51
NARS: foul play
# dysfunctional mom 2010-03-25 02:59
I heart lip gloss. I also heart your new haircut!
# Emily 2010-03-25 07:04
Got my JCrew catalog last week and was really considering those Minnie pants. Thanks for the tips!
# traci 2010-03-25 07:10
Can I cry into my laptop over your adorable short cut? I am seeping tears over this(my) growing out stage. I miss that awesomely sensible and complimentary cut. WAH! Love your spring collection, and can we both say some prayers together that spring is in fact here to stay? I swear to you, if I come home from vacay and am met with a snow storm I will not be held responsible for what I do next.
# amy 2010-03-25 07:23
Ohmommy looks stylishly hot!
Check out Ann Taylor loft for cute floral tops and H&M new line comes out the 25th.
you might want to get one boyfriend sweater for spring, looks fab with the Minnie pants:-D
Love the hair looks great and the bangs are to die.
# kelly 2010-03-25 07:27
Please tell where those aqua flats are from...I've been everywhere looking for simple flats with no bling!
# Pauline 2010-03-25 07:53
I'm looking for simple aqua flats myself. I have the most perfect earrings.

I found the most adorable aqua flats at the Gap. For kids. Waaaa.... Still looking for a pair for myself.
# Sherry 2010-03-25 07:31
love the spring look!! the hair, the lipgloss, the glasses...i'm a Jcrew lover so i will try the pants. although i'm worried my butt won't look as cute in them as the model's does.
# CjSomebody 2010-03-25 07:44
So hip and fun! I love your style.
# Marinka 2010-03-25 08:08
I'm very worried about the floral. I think I'll settle for a new floral oven mitt or something.

My spring must is navy stripes. I've always loved them and they're finally in style again!
# amy thebitchinwife 2010-03-25 08:10
I want to see more of this sassy new haircut. Love the gloss & shades. And I want to know where you found a bag that looks even remotely good enough (in a knock-off kind of way) to carry around in lieu of a real Hermés. Please do tell!
# Pauline 2010-03-25 08:16
The one pictured above is Michael Kors for $300
# Scarlett 2010-03-25 09:33
Hmm...I just don't want to look totally frumpy. No gym clothes allowed outside of the gym.

I feel totally inadequate after reading about your stylish self.
# Pres. Kathy 2010-03-25 09:54
I am all about the flats. An Hermes bag wouldn't hurt?!?!
# Molly 2010-03-25 10:24
I love the earrings. I am way overdue for an update there!
# allison 2010-03-25 11:03
if you find a Birkin lookalike, let me know. The closest I'm coming to that bag is a picture from outside the store I took in Boston.
# The Daily Stroll 2010-03-25 12:11
Great Spring Wardrobe! Love the J Crew pants! Oh what I wouldn't give for a Hermes Birkin bag!
# anya 2010-03-25 12:26
What's on my radar? Ruffled tops in soft cotton the color of blush or cream, paired with cargo pants or distressed boyfriend jeans and wedges. Add the Aviator sunglasses!
# Sue Ann 2010-03-25 17:13
So excited to read that GAP has cute flats FOR KIDS!!! (I wear a size 2 lol)!! I have looked everywhere for flats that don't scream (or even whisper) Dora the Explorer!! :O)LOVE the earrings, gloss, and hair by the way!
# Flea 2010-03-25 17:38
Look how cuter you are! I'll have my boy make you some dangly earrings once his wire wrapping skill is where it needs to be.
# Texan Mama 2010-03-25 23:15
Hi! I'm curious, how do you store your seasonal clothes? Do you do anything to take special care? Do they get stored in the attic or the basement or garage, or do you have extra space in your closet? Do you fold them all nice & safe, or are you like me and basically shove them into a big plastic storage bin, then sit on the lid to make it shut?

Just wondering. You seem to always pay such close attention to your wardrobe, I wondered if you gave it special attention in the off-season.
# Meg 2010-03-26 10:08
Not sure if I have ever posted before .. but I certainly have been reading for a while!!! Love, love , love the style updates. I am so challenged fashion wise..

I wish there were garanimals for moms. (Actually, I am having deja vu, I think I did make a comment before.. )

I also wanted to thank you for the PICKLE recipe. I made some yesterday in front of my son and his 14 year old friends.. and I kid you not, one overindulged suburbanite boy said " you can make pickles!" and then proceeded to take out his flip video camera and video me doing it.

Wow. 14. He thought you could only BUY them...
# Legallyblondemel 2010-03-26 10:15
Love the philosophy and your picks. I need to downscale my sunglasses as well, but the current blingy pair were a fabulous surprise from the AH, so on they'll stay until they pass away.

On the other hand - where can I find this Hermes inspired bag?
# Jill 2010-03-29 00:08
I always enjoy your wardrobe posts... As someone who has seriously only lived in tank tops, jeans, and heels for the past 7 years, I'm in MAJOR need of new (and real) clothes.
# Kenesha 2010-03-29 15:17
You look fabulous!
