OHmommy's most famous, easy-to-cook, Polish stuffed cabbage or Golabki!!!

Ingredients: Cabbage, white rice, meatloaf spices, 1 lb of ground beef, 1/2 lb of ground pork, 1/4 lb of ground veal, tomato sauce (or family size can of tomato soup), and one egg.

First step is to add some water to two pots. One for the rice. One for the cabbage. Have mommy boil the water on the stove. The stooooooove is hot! Make sure mommy checks on the cabbage cuz it shouldn't be too floopy. It should be just a little sweaty.

Next you take the three meats and egg and spices and mix them all together. Ewwww... slimy. My hands are yucky.

It is much better to use a smasher to mush up the not cooked meats for me. (OHmommy says... prepare meat mixture exactly how you prepare meatloaf for your family. Essentially stuffed cabbage is meatloaf with rice, wrapped in cabbage, and cooked in tomato sauce)

When you are done smashing the meat, rice should be done cooking. Add rice to the mushed up meat and make sure it's half not-cooked meat and half cooked-up rice. It should be equal. Fair. The meat and rice won't argue when they cook because they are fair and equal. Right, Mama?

When the cabbage is sweaty you can chop off each leaf. Now it's time to scoop up the meat and rice and ploop a spoon full in the middle of each cabbage leaf.

Rolling time. Rooooooll. Rooooll. RRRRRRRRoll and tuck and tuck and roll. (OHmommy says... gently swaddle the leaf around the meat/rice mixture just like you swaddle a newborn in a blanket)

OHmommy's roll on the left. Lola's roll on the right.

Put all the finished rolled cabbages into one pot. Add the sauce and cook. (OHmommy says... mix one can of soup and one can of water in separate bowl and pour over the rolls. Make sure the rolls are 1/2 submerged in liquid. Cook for two hours at 350 degrees.)

Smacznego! Or Bon Appetit! Or yummy yummy there's a party in my tummmmmmy!

(OHmommy says... if you like tomatoes add one can of stewed tomatoes before cooking. If you dislike tomatoes substitute the tomato soup with cream of mushroom and it's equally as delicious) Cooking in Leotards with Lola: Part 1 (Chicken Kiev) can be found here. Why cooking in leotards? Lola's gymnastics school is located very close to our farmer's market and my little chef is always too anxious to cook and doesn't wait to change. Makes sense now, no?
