Long before I started this blog (when I was pregnant with my second child) I purchased a map of the world that was twelve feet wide by six feet high. I ordered my husband (during my third trimester nesting period) to hang it in our family room IMMEDIATELY because I was determined to raise global citizens even though my then eighteen-month-old couldn't tell his right from his left.
My sister was in Africa, my parents were traveling to Europe every other month and we were in Ohio - a gigantic map in our family room made sense in my third trimester when things like skype or facebook didn't exist. It made us feel connected to our family in this great big world.
We moved out of that house when I was very pregnant with my third child and the map couldn't go with us. I was sad, the map with all the markings of where we've been and what we've seen was there to stay because my awesome husband took my nesting very seriously and secured it on the wall forever.
Fast forward to the future. Enter the IKEA world map. I purchased it yesterday, my sweet husband hung it up today and I can't wait to properly baptize it with places we've seen and want to see in the future.
No. I'm not pregnant nor nesting. Gawd, no! Just excited about our future - a gigantic world map in the center of our home to remind our children and us just how much is out there.
