|On the last night of our vacation, my heart exploded.|

We just returned from what was a fabulous vacation in Florida. Did I mention that I won this contest? There's so much to write about - the hotel, the family retreat, the theme parks and I promise to get to it all because it's a wealth of information that I myself would appreciate reading online when planning a trip to Orlando. I just need to process it all; but, before I do, I wanted to capture this one single memory so in the future I can point to it and say "Remember when?" to my children. Because that's the point of my online journal and I wanted to chronicle the last night of our vacation... when my heart exploded!
A random teenage boy staying at our hotel addressed my daughter, throughout the night, as THAT F^CKING GIRL.
There she is! With her sidekick bro in the background defending "their" territory in the water war some kiddos created late in the night.
Lola: Mom, the boys keep calling me THAT F^CKING GIRL!
Me: What's going on?
Lola: I'm the only girl in the water war.
Me: Wait, what?
Jay: Don't worry mom. I told those teenagers something and they ran away!
Me: What did you say?
Jay: I said "are you afraid of water or afraid of a girl"?
Me: What did they say?
Jay: They swam away!
That's when my heart exploded. All of the family building, sticking up for your family members lectures that I thought were going out one ear FINALLY worked. They were listening. My son stood up for his sister! Heart. Full. So. Full. I was so proud of how he handled the situation and kept telling him so. There will always be mean people in life, I know this & my kids know this, but I can sleep a little easier tonight knowing that my children look out for one another. There's nothing that warms my heart more.
